SCOTTISH COMEDIAN OF THE YEAR 2014 entries now open. Final at O2 Academy Glasgow on Sunday 28th September.

Winner gets £1500 & trip to Adelaide Fringe & EdFringe show next year like loveable Larry Dean who keeps selling out.

Enter if you’re Scottish & can be arsed. Don’t bother if you’re not or can’t. First heats immediately after EdFringe so fill the form out ASAP.

Do you want to be part of the biggest night of the Scottish Comedy Calendar?

Ha Ha Comedy & HireAComedian.co.uk are to once again scour the length and breadth of the Scotland, to seek out the very best in Scottish Stand Up Comedy with the annual Scottish Comedian of the Year Competition.

The competition is open to all Scottish comedians no matter how long they have been performing or how high a profile they may have.

Over the past seven years Scottish comedy fans have taken the competition to their hearts, with sell out audiences at almost all the heats, semi finals and finals.

For the past six years the Grand Final has attracted an audience upwards of 750 people. The Best of Scottish Comedian of the Year touring shows also attract full houses at arts centres and theatres across Scotland, as does its 4 week run at Underbelly’s E4 Cowbarn where it is now biggest selling showcase of Scottish comedians at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Likewise the annual Scottish Comedian of the Year competition has grown to be widely regarded within the comedy and events industries, being nominated for Best Traditional Event at the Scottish Event Awards in 2008 whilst The List describes the competition as “looms ever more influentially in the stand-up calendar” .

Heats for SCOTY will be held at venues across Scotland in June and July. Three semi finals will be held in late July and the Grand Final will take place at Glasgow’s O2Academy on Sunday 29th September.

1st Prize – £1500,

plus the coveted Banana Boots Trophy.

plus return flights and accommodation to perform at Australia’s Adelaide Fringe in February 2014.

2nd Prize – £500,

All finalists will get to perform at least one weekend Best of Scottish Comedian of the Year show at The Edinburgh Fringe 2013.

Competition format

It’s pretty much the same as last year.

There will be between 8 – 12 heats. During the heats each competitor is allocated a maximum of 7 minutes. The top 3 acts per heat, as voted by the audience, will progress to the semi finals. Ha Ha Comedy will allocate a maximum of 3 wild card spots in the semi finals from competitors in the heats.

There will be 3 semi finals. During the semi finals each competitor is allocated a maximum of 10 minutes. The top 2 acts per semi final, as voted by the audience, will progress to the semi finals. A 3rd act per semi final will progress to the final via a judges vote.

The 10th spot in the final will be given to the winner of The SCOTY Gong Show in early September.

As with previous years, the winner and runner up etc at the Grand Final will be decided by a panel of industry judges.
